Met Jump to Varsity 2018 Champions
Thu, 1st Feb 18It was a double win for Gage Francis in London yesterday at the Inter Varsity match vs Loughborough, Bath, Brunel and Birmingham. By winning both the Long and Triple jump Gage kick started a points haul from the men’s team that resulted in them finishing two points clear of Birmingham in silver. Individual wins also went to Leon Greenwood – 60m (6.94), Zach Harrop – PV (4.40m), Michael Wilson – 60mH (8.45), and 4x200m Relay (Dan Beadsley, Kane Densley, Tyler Williams and Leon Greenwood – 1:28.69). As ever with the team scores tightly contested throughout the match every point counted. Justin Tarrant put his good indoor multi’s form to use winning points in the pole vault, shot put and 60mH. In the middles distance events Kieran Elland, Charlie Joslin-Allen, Jordan Wood and William Forster all fought hard for significant points. As a debutante at varsity Travis Mcmichael acquitted himself well in the shot put, finishing just short of his personal best gaining valuable competition experience.
In the women’s competition first year Molly Newton had a busy day competing in three events; High Jump (1.65), Long Jump (5.06) and Shot Put (9.0m). There were also strong performances on the track with Amy Bowen and Amy Odunaiya picking up points in the sprints before combining again in the relay. In the pole vault Fiona Hockey continued to build form with a consistent 3.60m vault for second. Overall the women’s team concluded the day in third, well done to everyone who participated to a fantastic Met team performance.
