Hello and Happy New Year – Matt Wood

Mon, 4th Jan 16

HELLO,

My name is Matt Wood, I am very excited to introduce myself to you all as I begin my new role with the club as Head of Performance. I am delighted to be working with James Thie (Director of Athletics and Head of Endurance) and the club committee toward the ambitious strategy that is in place to develop Cardiff Met as the number one choice for student athletes in the UK. There are a lot of exciting opportunities for growth and development within the club and the university as a centre of excellence for athletics in Wales and the UK – that is why I am delighted to be part of the team.

I personally coach Sprints and Hurdles as well as being an accredited strength and conditioning coach. I am moving from the North East of England where I have studied, lived and worked for the past nine years. My personal coaching group in the NE covered all speed events and multi-events, my aim is to establish a hurdles group at the club as well as offering support to athletes and coaches across the team. Using my background in coach development and mentoring programs with England Athletics I am looking forward to adding positively to the performance environment at the club and helping athletics to impact the Universities wider performance vision. As a club our aim is to support our athletes and to grow and develop the valuable coaching resource that saupports them.

If you would like to speak to me about any club development, BUCS or coaching matters I would be delighted to hear from you, please do not hesitate to contact me using any of the methods below. If you see me about please stop me and say Hi! I look forward to meeting you all in person and working with you all.

Happy New Year to all our Athletes and Coaches, I wish you every success in 2016.

See you at the track,

MATT
